Alfred Lee Bates, 63 years old, of Pensacola, FL, passed away peacefully at his home on May 26th, 2022. He was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas on March 4th, 1959. Alfred graduated from Fountain Lake High School, and was married to his high school sweetheart, Darla for forty – four wonderful years.

Alfred and Darla moved to Pensacola, FL in the summer of 1990. He and Darla had three children, Samantha (James) Boyington, Shawn Bates, and Brent Bates; and were blessed to have five grandchildren, Jasmine Snipes, Devin Snipes, Jayda Fillingim, Dylan Fillingim, and James Boyington.

Alfred also had a sister, Theresa (Dennis) Teague; niece, Amanda (Paul) Lloyd; great niece, Tiffany Lloyd; and his nephews, Joshua and Jessie.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Olline; sister, Theresa; his son, Brent; and his nephew, Jessie.

Alfred worked for the Escambia County School District for twenty-eight years and retired after an untimely job injury.

Alfred loved spending time with his family on the water and was a “Jack of all trades.” He had a big heart and went out of his way to help many people over the years.

He loved German Shepherds and over the last few years, had formed a strong bond with his companion “Duress.”
