Obituary for Bethel L. Goodwin - Smith

In celebration of life
Bethel Lynn Smith
December 19, 1968- August 10, 2022

Bethel Lynn Smith went into the presence of Jesus on August 10, 2022, after a long battle with cancer. She was born on December 19, 1968, in Gary, Indiana, but spent most of her growing up years in the Atlanta area, graduating from Shiloh High School in Stone Mountain, Georgia. She furthered her education at Pensacola State College, earning an AA degree, desiring to follow a path of social work. She made many friends during the years as she worked at Sacred Heart Hospital in various departments, and the Pensacola Naval Base. She greatly loved the Bible study group she attended and the Matters Of The Heart (MOTH) group from her church. Making people happy came naturally to her, and she made it an everyday goal to show others love. She was a spirited fan of Auburn football and Blue Wahoo’s baseball, and also loved quiet evenings watching one of her many movies.

Many will remember a favorite activity for Bethel was meeting friends for fellowship over a meal. She will be remembered for her ready smile, and enthusiastic hugs.

Bethel is survived by her husband, John Smith, her mother and stepfather, Helen and Don Baker of Gulf Breeze; her sister, Robin Woods of Pensacola; and stepbrother Brett Baker, as well as two nephews, a niece, and several cousins. She leaves behind many, many friends who were like family to her.

The Memorial service for Bethel Goodwin Smith will be held on Friday, August 26 at My Fathers Vineyard 7895 Pensacola Blvd., Pensacola, FL 32534. Doors will be open at 5:30 p.m. and the service will start at 6:30 p.m. followed by a MOTH (Matters Of The Heart) social afterward.
