Obituary for Charles Earnest Allender

Charles E. Allender (Big Time)
1936-2021

Charles E. Allender, a US Air Force Veteran, Former Deputy Sheriff and retiree of the CSX railroad, passed away on February 13, 2021 at the age of 84. Charles was born on April 21, 1936 to the late Otis and Dorothy Allender in Owensboro, KY.

Charles is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth A. Allender; children, Cyndee Pennington (Jim), Tony Allender (Susie) and Greg Allender (Elisa); brothers, Jerry Allender (Judy), Ronnie Allender and Keith Allender (Sherry.); In addition, he leaves seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Dorothy Allender; sister, Evelyn Guardalabene; son, Michael Allender and great-grandson Lukas Mestek.

Charles grew up in Evansville, IN attending elementary and high schools in Evansville. He enlisted in the US Air Force where he became a military police officer specializing in K9 handling. After the Air Force, he returned to Evansville and became a deputy sheriff serving the Evansville community. Charles began his long career with the L&N/CSX Railroad in 1968 and then moved his family to Pensacola, FL in 1972 to continue his railroad career and retired in 2010 after 42 years of service as an Engineer.

A Celebration of Life service will be held towards the end of March.
