Charles Joseph Salvaggio
November 18, 1930 – April 25, 2022

Charles Joseph “Sal” Salvaggio, 91 years old, of Pensacola, FL, lived along fulfilling life. He passed away in his home, surrounded by loved ones on April 25th, 2022 to be with his Heavenly Father.

Charles was born in Easton, PA to Alfonso and Stella Leubis Salvaggio on November 18th, 1930. At the age of 12 he started working for his father repairing shoes until the age of 17. On his 17th birthday, November 18, 1947, he enlisted in the United States Navy as a Seaman Recruit at Easton North Hampton, PA. After training at the Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, IL his first duty station was Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL. There he met and fell in love at first sight and married on October 16, 1948, his beautiful, devoted wife, Leslie Marie Rich Salvaggio; and they were blessed to celebrate 73 years of marriage.

Charles served on USS MT Olympus Naval Air Station in Argentina, Newfound land, USS Saipan, Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, FL, USS Intrepid, USS Antietam, USS Turner, US Naval Station, San Juan, Puerto Rico, where he became a Deacon and served the Lord. He also served on the USS Lexington Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL. Charles served as the Food Service Manger at Naval Communications Training Center, Pensacola, FL. His last assignment was Resident Assistant Navy Exchange Officer, Ellyson Field, Pensacola, FL. Charles loved the Navy and especially the times spent on the ships, but chose to retire as Chief Petty Officer, SHC on August 13, 1971, at the age of 40. After his Naval career he became a prosperous businessman by owning and operating Sal’s Shoe Shop in Atmore, AL, purchased on August 1st, 1972. In 1973, they moved the shop to Pensacola, FL to be closer to home. After selling the shop in 1991, Charles made the best of life by going on camping trips with loved ones and friends. His hobbies also included woodworking, watching Westerns, and yelling at the T.V. during any wrestling event. He loved serving the Lord and his country and was blessed in love with his church family and friends; and he stayed a deacon until his death.
He is preceded in death by both his parents; siblings, Frank Faur, Lena Schroder, Josephine Brigham, Decca Frey; brother-in-law, Cliff Isum; his children, Charles Joseph Salvaggio, Jr. and Alfonso Salvaggio, II.

Charles is survived by his precious wife, Leslie Marie Rich Salvaggio; sister-in-law, Shirley Isom; children, Micheal (Sharise) Pierce, Decca (David) Smith; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Salvaggio; grandchildren, Alfonso (fiancé, Leilani Porter) Salvaggio, III, Charles (Laura) Salvaggio, William (Teresa) Salvaggio, Damaris (Taylor) Stinson, Sherry-Anne Phelps, and Brandon (Cathy) Pierce; 17 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.

A service will be held on Saturday, May 21st, 2022, at West Pensacola Baptist Church, 5213 West Jackson Street, Pensacola, FL 32506. The family invites friends to join them at 11:00 a.m., and the service will follow at 11:30 a.m.
