Obituary for Duane Francis "Pete" Nunnally

Duane Francis Nunnally, more commonly known as “Pete”, passed away peacefully April 26, 2023 in Pensacola, FL, at 88 years old.

Pete was born October 6, 1934, in Ainsworth, Iowa to Albert and Thelma Nunnally. He was raised in Iowa before enlisting in the US Navy where he proudly served twenty years in the Navy before retiring as a Petty Officer First Class and loved reminiscing on his time served. He continued his service to his beloved country in a second career with NARF/NADEP in Pensacola before his retirement as a civil servant.

Pete enjoyed traveling to Iowa to visit with family and friends, watching college football and basketball, especially FSU and the Iowa Hawkeyes, and a good home cooked meal. He loved to tell stories, some truer than others, and holding court amongst friends and strangers alike. He was fiercely proud of his children, Patrick and Jennifer. Pete was never short on opinions or love for his family. He will be missed.

Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Anne, and his parents.
Left to cherish his memory is his son Patrick (Angela) of Pensacola, FL; his daughter, Jennifer Nunnally of Pensacola, FL; and his brother Jim Nunnally (Peggy), Iowa City, IA.

The family would like to thank Life Care Center of Pensacola, especially the nurses and patient care techs of the 2nd floor. A special thanks to Jim, his roommate at Life Care Center, and Jim’s wife Pat for their kindness and compassion during Pete’s last days.

The visitation will be held at Trahan Family Funeral Home in Pensacola on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a short service to follow. Pete will be interred in a private service with full military honors at Barrancas National Cemetery on Pensacola NAS at a later date.
