Obituary for Elmer Eugene "Gene" Nowling Jr.
Elmer Eugene Nowling, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Gene was born on July 24, 1959, in Defuniak Springs, Fl. He was a 1978 graduate of Pace High School. He worked 29 years for Winn-Dixie and owned and operated a successful Pepperidge Farm franchise for over 17 years until he became ill. Gene was an avid fan of the Florida Gators, NASCAR, and the Snowball Derby. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting with his longtime best friend, Jeff Perritt.
Gene was preceded in death by his father, Elmer E. Nowling and his brother, Michael Nowling.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Mary Huter Nowling; his children, Heather Nowling, Jarrod Stewart, Katherine and Brad Atwater; his granddaughters, Anna Kate and Allie Claire Atwater; his mother, Mary E. Nowling; his sister, Cindy Jones, his niece, Gena and her family Cody and Honor Killion. Gene also leaves behind many other family members and close friends.

Visitation will be held at Trahan Family Funeral Home of Milton on Friday, March 31 at 2:00 PM followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM.
