Obituary for Frederick James McCluskey

Frederick J. McCluskey Sr. passed away peacefully in his home on the morning of January 29th, 2023, at the age of 81 years old. He was born in Pensacola, Florida on September 8th, 1941.

A native of Pensacola, Frederick, or “Fred” as known by friends and loved ones, was raised by John and Mary McCluskey with his brother Matthew McCluskey and sister Brenda Maddox. He graduated from Catholic High School, where he met the love of his life, Lynne. The two would soon be married on October 8, 1960. Together, the couple raised three amazing children: Janet (deceased), Karen, and Fred Jr.

Fred was a living history book of Pensacola, always willing to bend your ear about the old days of the town he loved. He held several jobs throughout his life, including Pfeiffer Printing, Pensacola News Journal, Daniel Construction, Mason Dulion Construction, and McCluskey Plumbing. He would later settle down into a 26-year career as a planner and estimator with the NAS Civil Service, from which he retired. Fred was a fiercely devoted husband, a loving father, and a fun grandfather and great-grandfather. Away from work and family, Fred enjoyed his time as a long-time member of the Pensacola Jaycees and was a proud volunteer at the USO.

He is survived by his wife, Lynne McCluskey; daughter, Karen Myers (Brad); son, Fred McCluskey Jr. (Sina); brother, Matt McCluskey; grandsons, Logan Singleton (Jaime) and Steven Myers (Amanda); granddaughter, Nola McCluskey; great-grandchildren, Bowen and Boone Myers; and many nieces, cousins, and nephews.
