Obituary for George Edward O'Brien

GEORGE EDWARD “OB” O’BRIEN

George Edward O’Brien, known as “OB,” passed away at the age of 85 on December 8, 2022.

OB was born February 15, 1937, in Berkeley, California to his parents, Chester Edward O’Brien and Helen Margaret O’Brien. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and upon an honorable discharge, enlisted in the United States Navy. He enjoyed a career as an Aviation Electronics Technician and served 20 years, experiencing incredible events and adventures around the world before retiring. OB soon moved his family to Pace, Florida, where he followed his entrepreneurial passions for self-employment and began O’Brien Services, Inc. Through hard work and dogged determination, he built his company into a highly-successful business. Following decades of success, OB closed O’Brien Services to enjoy his other passions: fishing and boating in the Gulf; scuba diving; traveling to and exploring Mexico; stained glass making; turning wooden bowls, gardening and raising pigeons.

OB was preceded in death by his father and mother, his step-son, Robert Joseph (“Butchie”) Blankenship, his son, Michael Steven O’Brien, and his step-son, Michael David Lake.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Sue Pritchett O’Brien, and children: Scott Patrick O’Brien (Rosy Puentes O’Brien); Tammy O’Brien Gonzales (Mike Gonzales); Shana O’Brien Carlson (Mark Carlson); Kathy O’Brien Taylor (J.P. Taylor); Kerri O’Brien Watson (Patton Watson); Richard Shane Youngblood (Britney Rene Youngblood), and Shawn Youngblood (Kristin Youngblood), together with 29 grandchildren (spouses) and 13 great-grandchildren.

A visitation has been scheduled for January 19, 2023, from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Trahan Funeral Home of Milton, 6539 Trammel Drive in Milton. A military memorial service will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery Naval Air Station Pensacola on January 20, 2023, beginning at 11:30 AM. OB desired to be cremated with his remains scattered at sea.
