Obituary for Gregorio Acoba

Gregorio Ramel “Greg” Acoba, 88, passed away on Saturday, September 3rd at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida.

Greg was born on September 14, 1933, in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. He is the fourth and youngest son of Basilio Acoba and Arcadia Ramil. He married Petrona Diosana Dadivas in 1955 in Manila, Philippines.

Greg was a professional road bicycle rider. He completed the Tour de Luzon in 1983. He moved to Germany in 1987 and lived with his wife, Petrona, and daughter, Lydia, and her family. In 1990, the family moved to the United States and settled in Pensacola, Florida. Greg was an 18-wheeler driver and was able to travel to the United States for a year. After being a truck driver, Greg worked at the Pensacola Dog Track and later retired. After the passing of his first wife, Petrona, Greg remarried in 2006 to Marilou Cenas of Baguio, Philippines. Greg loved his family. He picked up his grandchildren from school and would watch them until their parents were off from work.

His love language was food. He would never let you leave his home hungry. Greg and Marilou often went out to eat and enjoyed each other’s company when trying out new places. He will always be remembered for how hardworking he was and his loving, selfless heart. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Basilio Acoba and Arcadia Ramil; his first wife Petrona Diosana Dadivas; and his siblings.

Gregorio is survived by his wife: Marilou Cenas Acoba; two daughters, Remedios Carlos and Lydia Acoba Fisher; eight grandchildren, Lovelle Saguid, Sweet Camacho, Allan Carlos, Robert “Bobby” Madden, Robert “Jr” Madden, Joshua Madden, Jec-Jec Carlos, and Dellanie Fisher; two very close friends, Bennie Bernal and Lyneth Jennelle; many great-grandchildren and his dog, Bear.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm at Trahan Family Funeral Home ,60 Industrial Blvd. Pensacola, FL 32503 on Sunday, September 11, 2022. Following the service there will be a visitation and reception at 3:00 pm.
