Obituary for Hugh Warren Welker

HUGH WARREN “BUDDY” WELKER
1943-2023

“To Be Absent From The Body Is To Be Present With The Lord “ (2 Corinthians 5:8)

HUGH WARREN “BUDDY” WELKER, 79, was born in Pensacola, Florida to the late Warren (Julia) Welker and Evelyn (Donald) Richards. He was a graduate of the J.M. Tate High School Class of 1962. He left for his final fishing trip on April 11, 2023, surrounded by his family and the wonderful staff at Coral Bay of Pensacola and Emerald Coast Hospice.

Buddy worked for the United States Postal Service and was able to retire early after 27 years. Following retirement, he took a job at Gray’s Tackle where he shared his extensive knowledge of fishing and love of boating with customers–many of whom became friends. He also shared his love of the water with his second family at the Grand Lagoon Yacht Club. Buddy was a kind, compassionate and easy- going man who easily made friends along the way.

Buddy was pre-deceased by his second wife, Vivian; parents, “second mother”, Delores ‘Nanny’ Gibb; sister, Judy (Curtis) Creighton; brothers, Thomas Welker and Paul Welker.

He is survived by first Wife, life-long friend and mother of his three children, Mary (Kal) Luoto; sons, Hugh W. Welker, II, and Donald Welker; daughter, Mariadrian (Jay Murphy) Welker; grandson, Alexander Murphy; brother, Terry (Lorraine) Welker; and sisters Vickie DeMott, Claudia (Bob) Wynne, and Carolyn (Doug) Sirmon; as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend our most sincere gratitude to the staff of Coral Bay of Pensacola and Emerald Coast Hospice for their outstanding care of our father during his greatest time of need. There will not be a public service. A private remembrance will be held at a later date.
