Obituary for James Cutts

James F. “Jimmy” Cutts passed away peacefully at home on March 5, 2024. He was 88 years old. Jimmy was born September 13, 1935, as the youngest of 8 children born to Sam & Margaret Cutts. As a child, his family relocated to Holley, FL where he spent most of his time playing baseball and swimming in East Bay. He graduated from Milton High School and remained a life-long fan of the Milton Panthers. As a Milton High baseball player, he set the record for striking out the most batters in a single game when fanned 18 opponents. To our knowledge, the record still stands today.

With the help of brothers-in-law, Clayton Broxson and Lonnie Anderson, Jimmy found his first adult job at Runyans Shipyard in Pensacola. Eventually, he went to work as an agent with Liberty National Insurance, where he retired after 25 years. After retirement he worked with Bill Salter Outdoor Advertising for several years. His favorite activity was taking the motor home to Bear Lake and camping with his wife.

For years, he was a Deacon and Sunday School teacher at Hickory Hammock Baptist Church. He and Buddy Jordan coached the church league youth baseball team. He was part of Hickory Hammock's 3-time National Championship softball team. Later, he and mother started attending Pine Terrace Baptist Church, where he again served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher.

He was preceded in death by his, parents Sam and Margaret Cutts; and siblings: Elizabeth Anderson, Pat Cutts, A.C. Cutts, Helen Kimmons, Billy Cutts, and Bobbie Broxson.

He is survived by his sister Jeanette Cutts. He is also survived by wife of 66 years, Rosalyn Cutts; his children: Jim Cutts (Sandee), Brad Cutts (Angie), Annalisa Cutts-Gillis, Steve Cutts (Michelle); eight grandchildren: Whitney Gillis Lehew (Matthew), Brent Gillis (Ashley), Zach Cutts (Emily), Sarah Cutts, Parker Cutts, Peyton Cutts, Kaylee Gillis and Travis Crews; and 7 great-grandchildren.

There will be a time of fellowship and remembrance at Pine Terrace Baptist Church beginning at 1:30 Sunday, March 10. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 with Dr. Mike Wiggins officiating.

Active Pallbearers will be Harry Hawthorne, Ronnie Jernigan, David McCurdy, Brian Jordan, Scott Jordan, and Pat McClellan.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Eddie Hobbs, George Maulthrop, Bill Salter, Ed Salter, Mike Crawley, Tracy Grimes, Waylon Lunsford, and Merrill Cutts.
