Obituary for James L Keith

James Lawrence Keith, 80, of Pensacola, Florida, passed away on March 25, 2023, surrounded by his children.

James was born in Bloomington, Illinois on December 29, 1942, to Elmer and Deloris Keith. He joined the United States Navy after graduating from high school. During his 24-year military career, James traveled to many counties including Germany, Greece, Italy, and Spain. He was also a Vietnam Veteran who served two tours in Vietnam. James ended his military career as an instructor at Corry Station Pensacola. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer.

James loved American History, reading, camping, gardening, baking, but most of all he loved his family. He was very involved in his children’s education and activities as well as all of his grandchildren’s. He was also a foodie, especially when it came to desserts. There was not a sweet treat that he did not like.

He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Deloris Keith; brother, Pat Keith and his wife of 44 years Judith D. Keith.

James is survived by his three children, Scott Keith (Peggy), Tammy Keith and Edith Keith-Blair; as well as, his grandchildren Rachel (Joseph) Lee, Rebecca (Chris) Lynn, Ryan (Heather) Keith, Justin (Daven) Keith, and Megan (Christopher) Stainbrook; 10 great grandchildren; and his cousin Judy Malcom Gibson.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 10:30 AM on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Trahan Family Funeral Home, 60 Industrial Boulevard, Pensacola, Florida 32503. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Mr. Keith will be interred next to his wife at 11:30 AM at Barrancas National Cemetery with Military Honors.
