Obituary for James Otis Sharpe Jr.

James O. Sharpe

James Sharpe (Jim, Daddy, Papa), 75, of Pace, FL, went home to Jesus on May 11, 2023.
Jim grew up in Washington, NC, and graduated from Washington High School, class of 1966. He studied Business Management & Computer Applications and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia. He earned his commission and wings and became an F-4 Phantom II fighter pilot during the Vietnam Era. He attained the rank of Major.
Jim married his true love, Beth, on January 12, 1991, in Hattiesburg, MS. They became foster parents to their one and only 11-week-old baby girl, Brittany. The following year, only by God’s grace was Brittany’s adoption granted on Valentine’s Day, 1994. Jim was a sports enthusiast, enjoying golf, boating, and motorcycles; he also enjoyed home projects, music and reading. He was a follower of Christ and a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Pensacola, FL.
Before retiring to Florida, Jim was employed by Hercules Chemical in Hattiesburg, MS, and Hercules Corporate in Wilmington, DE, Coca Cola, global IT project manager, Atlanta, GA, and Northrop Grumman, DIMHRS, project manager in New Orleans, LA.
Jim was predeceased by his mother, Ruby Elizabeth Dixon Gurganus, of North Carolina, and his father, James Otis Sharpe, Sr of Virginia.
Survivors include his wife, Beth Sharpe, Pace, FL; son, Landon Mayo, Pace, FL; daughter, Brittany V. Carpenter & her husband, Kevin, Covington, LA; granddaughters, Marley B. Mayo, Pace, FL, and Zoe C. Mayo, Pace, FL.
Grave-side memorial service in Hattiesburg, MS to be announced at a later date.
