Obituary for Kathryn Carlisle Craven

Kathryn Carlisle Craven, age 90 of Gulf Breeze passed away on January 21, 2023. Kay was born on April 18, 1932 in Monclair, NJ to Richard and Florence Carlisle. After graduating from Dana Hall high school, Kay became a comptometer operator (the first mechanical calculator). While visiting her high school roommate, Kay went on a blind date with Bob Craven. They were married 9 months later.

As the wife of a Naval officer, she moved throughout the US plus Bermuda before settling in Gulf Breeze upon his retirement. Kay was an active member of GFWC Santa Rosa Woman’s Club and several bridge clubs. She was a talented crafter, winning awards for her cross stitch pieces and needlework.

As a beloved grandmother, Kay was known for always attending sports games and school events. Her freezer was always stocked with chocolate chip cookies. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings and celebrating holiday traditions. Her joy as a grandmother was only surpassed when she became a great grandmother!

Kay and Bob were married for over 40 years until Bob’s passing in 2000. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Doris Carlisle; and her son Robert Craven.

She is survived by her sister, Ginger Carlisle; daughter, Beth Minor (Tony); daughter-in-law, Linda Kuntz (Richard); grandchildren, Bill (Rebecca), Jennifer (Gavin), Kathy, and Kristen (Duncan); four very special great grandchildren, Brayden, Callie, Felicity and Victoria along with cherished nieces and nephews.

Kay was a faithful member of Gulf Breeze Presbyterian Church for almost 50 years. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the church at PO Box 130, Gulf Breeze, FL 32562.

A family service is scheduled at Barrancas National Cemetery.
