Obituary for Marcus Arnold Grimes

Marcus “Marc” Arnold Grimes, age 72, of Walnut Hill, Florida, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023 peacefully in his home. He is proceeded in the death by his mother, and his father and his sister Judy. Judy was his 2 years older sister but was his twin in life.

Marc was born on May 05,1951 to the late Arnold and Marcella in Pensacola, Florida.

He was in the Air Force, stationed in Alaska, and shared his stories about snow plowing and the different trucks he drove.

In 1975 Marc met Gwen in Pensacola courtesy of Frank Merritt. Marc and Gwen had gone on to have 1 son, Jesse (Heather) Grimes of Walnut Hill, Fl. They have 2 grandchildren Oliver Beck Grimes and Willow Catherine Grimes. Marc and Gwen have been together for 49 years. They were said to be inseparable for all the decades they were together.

Marc enjoyed driving, and going to the different county festivals in the area. Marc and Gwen enjoyed seeing all the creativity brought to one spot. He especially loved to stop at the knife booth to have a look. He could glance at any knife and tell you its quality. Just don’t ask Gwen about the Smokey Mountain Knife store!

Marc’s pride and joy were his grandchildren. He was known for driving his red truck around with his travel buddy and pulling over to let Oliver look at the different tractors and trucks at work. Marc had a softer side that was brought out by his grandchildren bossing him around. He was very good at putting the puzzle pieces just where Willow told him to. "Papaw" became the world’s best short order cook by cooking up any of the kids requests from a ham sandwich to eggs and grits with bacon. Papaw’s collards were the only ones Willow would eat. Always changing the batteries in the kids toys and making them take them home was his way of spreading the love.

Marc was known for 3 things: always driving his red truck, always having his water bottle in a koozie, and always being a phone call away from anyone in need. Marc was a quiet guy but was ready to talk to anyone at the same time. His memories and legacy will be missed and passed on.
