Mary Ellen Osborne Jones
July 29, 1931 – April 21, 2023
Mary Ellen Osborne Jones, 91, passed away April 21, 2023 in Milton, Florida surrounded by family. She was born on South 6th Avenue in Lanett, Alabama on July 29, 1931 to Jesse James Osborne and Ruth Calhoun Osborne, the oldest of five children. She attended Lanett High School.
Mrs. Jones worked as a long-distance telephone operator for BellSouth (later AT&T) for almost thirty years in West Palm Beach, Florida. After retirement in 1993, she moved to Milton, Florida to live near her son and her sister. She was an avid reader and was a member of First Baptist Church in Milton.
She was predeceased by her husband Harold M. Jones in 1970. Additionally, by her parents and a sister and brother-in-law Donald and Betty Jean Moore and two brothers-in-law Billy Birdsong and Gerald Moore.
Survivors include her son Steve Jones (Carol Ann) of Milton, Florida, and her daughter Linda Jones Stough (Norman) of Randolph, Alabama. Grandchildren Angela Jones (Mark Padgett) of Milton, Florida, Chad Jones (Kimberly) of Franklin, Tennessee, and Jennifer Stough of Birmingham, Alabama. Mrs. Jones had six great-grandchildren: Kameron, Blaine, and Christopher Padgett and Patrick, Andrew, and Lily Jones. She is also survived by two sisters Lemerle Birdsong of Milton, Florida and Anne Moore of Eden, North Carolina. One brother Bobby Osborne (Connie) formerly of Lanett, Alabama. She is survived by one uncle Henry Osborne (Laura) of Lanett. Mrs. Jones had numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held in Lanett, Alabama at Oakwood Cemetery on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. EDST. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to her church:
