Obituary for Mary Robinson

Ms. Mary Lee Robinson was born March 20, 1943, in Monroeville, AL to the Late Rev. Calvin B. Robinson, Sr. and Mrs. Creola Faulk Robinson.

At an early age she discovered she was blessed with the gift of song and became a devoted servant of the Lord and a member of Limestone Faulk A.M.E Zion Church in Monroeville, AL where she sang in church with various choirs.

Mary attended and completed her basic education at B.I.A and Rosenwald Elementary Junior High. She attended Union High School in Monroeville, AL and graduated with the Class of 1962. Shortly thereafter, Mary moved to Pensacola, Florida and made it her home. She joined Emmanuel Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. John Rhoden and was a member of choir #2 and sang as a soloist.

Mary became a full-time caretaker for her mother, Mrs. Creola Robinson and her sister, Mrs. Callie Mae Stabler after a lengthy illnesses. She later joined Pleasant Hill Baptist under the leadership of Rev. L.D Wesley, Sr. where she sang in the Senior Choir and in different events such as: church anniversaries, Christian around the clock, Pastor’s anniversaries, and solos throughout the city. She was a faithful and devoted member until her health failed.

She later became employed with Escambia County at Escambia General Hospital (later renamed University Hospital). Shortly afterwards Mary was blessed with her only child, a daughter, Ms. Alfreda Merrill.

Mary was devoted member of the Masonic Family and held several degrees and positions: O.E.S. Order of Eastern Star, Past Associate Matron M.C.P. Keen #109 Chapter Prince Hall Grand Lodge; Daughters of Sphinx; Most Worthy Grand Matron M.E. I. G. M. Grand and Supreme Policewoman; Pasha Court #55; and Members of the Grand Aide.

Throughout the years Mary has held numerous positions within the county. She became a Guardian Ad Litem, retired from Escambia County B.C.C. Board of County Commissioner for 30 years of service. She later owned and operated MiMi’s Daycare until her health declined; Mary met no strangers. Everyone she met was greeted by her big smile and witty sense of humor. She shared the gift of song and wisdom through the city. During her life she was a blessing to many.

Mary Lee Robinson was preceded in death by grandmother who raised her, Mrs. Callie Faulk George of Monroeville, AL; her parents, Rev. Calvin B. Robinson, Sr., and Mrs. Creola Faulk Robinson; her siblings: Mrs. Callie Mae Stabler, Mr. Willie Albert George, Mr. Lawrence Robinson, Mrs. Willie Bell Calloway, Mrs. Julia Mae Middleton, Rev. Inez Robinson Manley, and Ms. Beatrice J. Robinson.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her only child, Ms. Alfreda Merrill; her only grandchild, Mr. Breyan Merrill; a special niece, Mrs. Sharon Ann Crayton; sisters-in-love, Mrs. Josa “Clyde” Merrill, Mrs. Ruth Lee, Mrs. Annette McNealy, Mrs. Juanita Dale, Mrs. Desi Lewis, Mrs. Mary Ivory, and Mrs. Verdel Rabb; special cousins, Mrs. Ruby Lee Henderson, Eartha Lee Turner, and Leaman Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The funeral will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023 at Great Little Rock Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m.
