Roy Spell Jr.
1937-2021

Roy Spell, Jr., 83, of Pensacola, FL passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 6, 2021. He was born on August 18, 1937 in Hazlehurst, Georgia to parents Roy Spell Sr. and Jessie Mae Walls.

After serving in the United States Marie Corps from 1952 to 1959 in Japan and Vietnam, he earned a Bachelors degree in Mathematics at the University of West Florida in 1969. Roy worked for Pensacola Junior College from 1971 through 1999.

Roy loved to read about a variety of subjects. He also loved to teach, travel, play piano, and cook.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Spell, Sr.; his mother, Jessie Mae of Hazlehurst, GA, his infant brother, Norwood; and his sister, JoAnne Brannen of Savannah, GA.

Roy is survived by his wife, Amelia Nell Spell-Weaver; his daughter, Sonja Spell of Knoxville, TN; son, Damon (Gabrielle) Spell of Tampa, FL; his brothers, Jerry Spell of Picayune, MS, Michael Spell, of Hattiesburg, MS; nieces and nephews, Lane Taylor (Mike) of Rosenberg, TX, Jamie Ely (Jeff) of Brandon, MS, Jay Spell of Pascagoula, MS, Caitlyn Necaise (Ty) of Diamondhead, MS, Amy Jillane Brannen, Heather Jeanine Brannen (Hattie Mae), and John Franklin Brannen of Savannah, GA; and his brother Michael’s three children and five grandchildren.

Roy’s cremains will be placed at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola at a later date.
