Obituary for Silas Martin "Marty" Barker

Silas Martin “Marty” Barker, 82, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at his home peacefully. He married Elizabeth Terrell on April 12, 1964, and they celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.
Marty was preceded in death of William and Alma Barker; and one brother, William Barker, Jr.
Marty graduated from Ocala High School in 1960. He served in the the United State Army, Military Police from July 1960- November 1961, moved to Florida State Highway Patrol as Driver’s License Examiner, and worked with the United Post Office from August 1967 – March 1968. He then worked as a Department of Navy/ Federal Civil Service in Security Investigation/ Driver License Examiner from March 1968 – May 1975 and joined the Naval Air Station Fire Department as Firefighter. He was promoted to Supervisor Firefighter as Captain during his service from May 1975 until his retirement in January 1996. He was a member of New Testament Fellowship Church.
He enjoyed researching Family Genealogy and working with others to fit the families together. He loved participating with the re-enactment group of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans. He was a talented handyman who completed his own home renovation which included a master bedroom and bath suite. He enjoyed drawing and painting in watercolors, photography, gardening, and even wrote some poetry. His passion was ministering and witnessing about his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, to the lost.
Marty is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; children, Tammie Marie Schoo, Elizabeth Alma Tate, Timothy Martin Barker, Sr. (Rhonda), and Eugenia Ruth Hernandez; grandchildren, Christopher L. Schoo, Corey M. Schoo, Sr., Ashley E. Tate, Daniel Tate, Ryan Tate (Gabby), Rebecca S. Glover (Michael), Sydney N. Miller (Sean), Timothy M. Barker, Jr. (Tina), Antonia E. Hernandez, and Catarina Y. Hernandez; great grandchildren, Bridgette Schoo, Corey M Schoo, Jr., Gabriel Glover, Addilyn Glover, and Anthony Barker; and two nephews, Charles Barker, and Donald Barker.

The service will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at New Testament Fellowship Church, 812 North W Street, Pensacola, FL. Visitation will start at 11:00 a.m. and the funeral will be following at 12:00 p.m. Rev. John Havener and Rev. Doug Fulford will be officiating. Interment will be to Barrancas National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
