Obituary for Virgene H. Coursen

Virgene Howard Coursen, 92, went to be with the Lord on March 7, 2023. Virgene was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She was married to the love of her life, Bill Coursen, for 64 years. Her heart’s desire was to be a homemaker, which she did beautifully from the time they married in 1949. Virgene was an impressive quilter, meticulous seamstress, avid reader, and devoted gardener. She spent many years fishing, not because she loved fishing, but because she loved Bill who had made her the “catch of his life.” She joins Bill in Heaven, and now they are both present with Jesus seeing Him in His glory face to face.
Virgene prayed faithfully for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She impacted the lives of many missionaries and young women through her prayers, mentoring spirit, hospitality, and generous giving.
She will be missed immensely by her children, Wayne Coursen (Pearl), Wendy Phillips (Michael), and Laura Catanese (Tony), seven grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Charity Chapel.
For decades, Bill and Virgene have faithfully supported countless missionaries. If you would like to continue their legacy of giving, memorial gifts may be made to the Coursen Memorial Missionary Fund, care of Charity Chapel, 5820 Montgomery Avenue, Pensacola, FL 32526.
Trahan Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
