Obituary for William G Henderson

William Garland “Bill” Henderson, Sr., of Milton, Florida, went to be with his Heavenly Father on March 19, 2024, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born September 10, 1941, in Lucedale, Mississippi, to Murdock and Mildred Joiner Henderson.

Bill was a faithful member of Bagdad First Assembly of God and he was a dedicated member of the community. He was a loyal member of the Lions Club and was a former member of Hadji Shriner’s Directors staff. He found great joy in assisting friends and family in need.

Bill worked diligently throughout his life and enjoyed learning and growing personally. Bill began his sales career with Southern Fastener in Mobile, Alabama and then transferred to Security Fastener in Pensacola, Florida. He managed Security Fastener for many years and then became the owner and CEO. Bill was a natural entrepreneur and owned several other small businesses in addition to Security Fasteners. In the late nineties, he acquired an insurance license and had a successful career selling health insurance. He was named one of the top salespeople in the nation for WellCare. In addition to his insurance license, Bill acquired his real estate license. He reluctantly decided to retire in 2022 at the ripe age of 80.

Bill had a great love of fishing, softball and Alabama football. He started the Southern Fastner men’s softball team and travelled throughout the south playing tournaments. In 1970, his softball team won the southern region and went to the World Tournament in Michigan and placed 13th. During Alabama football seasons, Bill loved watching the games with friends and family. These special days always included the Fab Four (Bill Henderson, Bill Henderson, Jr., Jeff Bailey, and Mike Smith). Bill’s love of the game will be celebrated by this special group every time the Tide kicks off.

Bill and Ruthie spent many years fishing, thrifting and enjoying game nights with friends. Ruthie was an exceptional caretaker making sure Bill was able to remain at home before his departure to his heavenly home.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Murdock and Mildred Henderson; sister, Rubye Jordan; brothers, Joe and James Henderson; and daughter, Karen Henderson Ellis.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Ruthie Duvall Henderson; son, Bill Henderson, Jr. (Cindy); grandchildren: Garrett Henderson (Pam) and Zack Henderson (Kendall), Robert and Lillian Worden; great grandchildren, Wheeler, Campbell, and Davies Henderson; nephew, Tony Smith (Cindi); great- nephew and niece, Brett and Cassie Smith; stepson, Vince Cooper (Donna); grandchildren, Miranda Neiden (Michael), Ryan, Ashley, and Johnathan Cooper; and many other nieces and nephews.

Visitation and Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Bagdad First Assembly of God with pastor Bruce Chambers officiating. Visitation begins at 1:00 pm and the Celebration at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bagdad First Assembly of God, Vitas Hospice, or St. Jude.

We would also like to give a very special “Thank you” to Bill’s hospice nurse, Jennifer Henshaw, and all of the close friends and family, especially of Windsor Villas for all their love and support.
